And Oscar was his name-o.

You knew it was coming!
Academy Awards fashion roundup!
Yayyyy!

First of all, I thought Ellen was really funny, she didn't try too hard. That whole myspace picture things was hilarious, as was the, "Leonardo DiCaprio. I don't have a joke, I just thought the ladies might like to look at you. Look at you!" Urg, I can't seem to remember the other funny stuff. I can't believe lost! I'm glad the guy from Little Miss Sunshine won, though, but I can't believe he put his Oscar on the ground. An Oscar's like an American flag. It does NOT TOUCH THE GROUND, you hear? Ohhhh and the whole Anne Hathaway/Emily Blunt/ Meryl Streep thing was good, Meryl's face was sooooo funny!!!!! And I loved how they had the living diaromas of the costumes, much cooler than seeing them in film.

Ok, I think that's it. Let's get on with the good stuff!

The Good:

Gwyneth Paltrow:

My personal best dressed of the night. I thought her Zac Posen was gorgeous. I loved the color, which was more vibrant on television. And the pleats were beautiful. And I loved her hair and the color of her lips as well. A+++

Cate Blanchett;
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
She is a personal fashion icon of mine. She takes risks and is never safe. This gown in Armani, and I love it. I love the shoulder, the color, and the beading at the bottom is extraordinary.

Reese Witherspoon:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Screw Ryan! She looks HOT! I love how, post-breakup, her hair is sleeker and straighter, less princess-y. Her dress is be-yoooo-tiful. I love the color, which looks great with her hair, and the flounces on the bottom.

Helen Mirren:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Helen Mirren looks three times as hot as girls half her age. She is so classy and elegant. The blush/champagne color is gorgeous, and the cleavage is sexy, but totally age-appropriate. Total score.

Isla Fisher:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Sacha Baron Coheen's (Borat) fiancee looks killer. The emerald color kicks ass with her beautiful red hair.

Emily Blunt:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I think Emily is an up-and-coming fashion icon. The color of this dress is perfect, and I actually like the metallic on her. And I'm not usually a big fan of metallic.

Nicole Kidman:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
A lot of people didn't like this dress, and I'm not quite sure why. The bow is no where NEAR the size of Charlize Theron's monstrosity last year. And the red of this dress is so much prettier than the ugly olive of Charlize's. And Nicole's hair is better than Charlize's awful bouffant. And this dress fabric is much better than the awful satin gross-ness of Charlize's. So basically everything about this is 8979879812 times better. But seriously, you could put Nicole Kidman in a paper bag and she would still look gorgeous. She's like a fairy princess, with that long, straight, blond hair and her absolutely incredible pale, flawless skin. I love this dress. I like the train too, I think it really adds to it.

Leonardo DiCaprio:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
My best dressed man was our favorite adorable ruffian, Leo. Though, I must say, I think he was much better looking younger (a la Titanic, Romeo + Juliet...), then now. He's all grown up, and I'm not sure I like it. But anyway. His voice is exactly the same, and I always think of Titanic when I hear it. Ohhh, happy memories. His hair's a little weird, but his suit is killer. Bam.

Kate Winslet:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Speaking of Titanic, who doesn't love Kate Winslet? I thinks it's awesome how she has curves. I love the mint green color of this dress, and the bottom. The only complaint I have is that it looks a bit as if her boobs are in two slings.

The "Ehhhhhh....."s

Jessica Biel:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
For some reason, it's just too pink for her. And that belt is really tacky.

Rachel Weisz:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
The color and bottom of this dress are gorgeous, but the bodice is a little weird. That brooch kind of annoys me, and the necklace does not work. She could've gone with out it.

Beyonce;
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
At least is wasn't that horrible, horrible, tacky, glittery number she wore to the Golden Globes. And she doesn't look like she was rubbed down with baby oil this time either. The color's pretty, but it's just kind of ordinary. I don't know. I hate the slit, too. I don't know. It's just an "Ehhhh...."

Naomi Watts:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Pretty, yes, but it just didn't do it for me. The whole thing is a little too 19th-century costume drama movie. The color doesn't quite work on her, and the back was really ugly.

Anne Hathaway:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
That bow is awful. Really really bad. But the bottom is pretty.

And the just plain bad:

Cameron Diaz:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Ok, how did she get an invite to the Oscars in the first place? But anyway, I just don't like this dress. The bottom is so weird. I hate the bodice as well. Plus, SOMEone went a LITTLE overboard on the self tanner. I like her better blonde.

Jennifer Hudson:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
The shimmery fabric does nothing for her shape. Shimmer and curves do not mix. Plus, what's with that jacket? She looks like a Martian.

Kirsten Dunst:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Worst dressed of the night. She disappointed so badly. First of all, those bangs just don't work with the dress, at all. And that top is terrible, she looks like she's wearing a translucent polo shirt. Through the hips is awful, I hate that fabric. And WHAT is with the bottom? It's like weird spouty-fountain-feather...things. Bad bad bad.

Whew! That took me awhile!

RIP, the OC

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

TV's (formerly) favorite teen drama is over, and I must say, I'm going to miss it terribly. I am going to miss the show that brought emo to the masses, made irony and sarcasm cool, and could launch an indie band by simply playing one of its songs. I will miss the show that had one of the most fashionable TV characters ever (Marissa Cooper, look back in my August archives for an entry on that), that made me laugh and even cry, and made me fall in love a little bit more with Seth Cohen with every sarcastic comment and Death Cab reference. I'm going to miss the show that made me want to hope in a car with my best friend and go on an impromtu road trip to California. If only I could drive. I cried terribly when Marissa died so tragically, just as I yelled at her before she died for getting involved with scumbag Volchek. I rooted for Seth and Summer, while secretly wishing Seth was my own. I even rooted for Taylor, because, as annoying as she was, she was a true human underneath. Where will I get my weekly indie music fix? Or my adorably perfect sarcastic Jewish boy fix? Or my shimming California ambiance fix? Or my catty drama fix?

RIP, The OC. You died too young.

Signed, a loyal fan.

"Well if life is a song, then you're scared to sing along." How beautiful is that lyric? It's from "Life Is a Song" by Patrick Park, who had the honor of being the last artist EVER played on The OC.

Detail shots kind of rock.

To Lazarro and Jack:

1) An extra layer would've been nice:

Office-worth attire

Ok. So this post is more of a tribute to my favorite show EVER, The Office, then it is to the clothes. Seriously. You NEED to watch this show. It's so funny, I don't even know where to begin. Watch one episode and see how long it takes for you to fall in love with Jim Halpert. I am in love with a fictional TV character. Oh god. But I can't help it! He's PERFECT! And he's my soul mate. Yup.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Ok.

Well, the attire in the office is so-so at best. Pam, particularly. Now, I know is a receptionist, but still. Those ill-fitting, matronly blouses and cardigans are endearing, and fit her character, but let's just pretend this is some other receptionist, not our beloved Pam. Ok?

Oh, Jim! How my heart goes out to you! Pam is so stupid! But you can't be together yet or the show would totally jump the shark. And Pam, white Keds with ankle socks at work? C'mon, now!

They do clean up awfully nice, though:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Awwww, look at John Krasinski with his hair and the suit! Awwww! And Jenna looks beautiful, too. Pam needs to get rid of that perm!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
These people make my life. And Jenna Fischer's dress is pretty. And hey, John's down on one knee!

Alternatives to dowdy office attire, appropriate for a receptionist, I think (I left out any suits):

Chic, sophisticated wrap dresses in muted colors:

Pencil skirts:

Wide-leg trousers:

Plus, in takes place in my home state of Pennsylvania! What more could you ask for???

Someday you will find me, caught beneath the landslide, in a champange supernova in the sky.

You could have it so much better!

Observe:

Specimen 1: John Mayer- good-looking, sensitive, singer-songwriter, kicks ass on guitar, deep lyrics, amazing voice, talented, smart:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Specimen 2: Jessica Simpson: Can't really sing, tries to act, which is even worse. Blonde bimbo who tries to make herself look smarter by dying her hair. Has the most annoying southern accent I've ever heard. Wears really ugly clothes:

Mix them together and you get:

Something is very wrong here.
Get out while you still can, John!

Who knows the date/ city of the Marc by Marc show?

I can't wait! So if you know, I'd appreciate it...

Ok. So. Yo. Hey-o.

I've never been the biggest fan of Tommy Hilfiger. His clothes were kinda preppier than I prefer. But, I must say, his Fall 07 show wasn't half bad. I think the idea was a New England fall/winter. You know, that innocent, prep-school feel.

Best things were:
1) The color of the shoes
2) The TIGHTS!

My absolute favorite look:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I want that coat/ tunic thing. And those tights! And the yellow of those shoes is the perfect touch!

I really loved all the heather gray tights. I want a pair JUST like them.

Stam

The dress would be better without the gloves and that weird bib-y thing.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I like this dress, those TIGHTS, and Hye Park is stunning.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Wow, Tommy. A black tee? On the runway? You can do better than that. I love those shoes though!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Cute shift, and the tights and green shoes bring it to a higher level.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Just like Nigel in the Devil Wears Prada. Who wouldn't want a man in a plaid suit?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Are there men who actually dress like this? If so, I want one!

Girl on Fire, Femme Fatale, Edie.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

(Isn't that poster AWESOME???)

Factory Girl
opened on Friday. I heard Sienna Miller was really good, but the movie itsself was so-so, and Hayden Christensen sucked (though when doesn't he, truly?).

The fashion is to die for, however, and I will see it no matter what, possibly just for that reason.

Sienna Miller does look an awful like like Edie though:

Blah blah blah

Fall clothes bore me.

Fashion Week so far has been less than stellar. (Except for Karen Walker: Oh, it is love.) Just because it's fall doesn't mean everything has to be so dark!

C'mon, Marc by Marc, redeem the fashion world!

So wouldn't you like to come with me, surfin' the sun as it starts to rise?,

The best thing to come out of New Zealand since Lord of the Rings

Karen Walker had her first New York Fashion Week show this past fall, for Spring '07. (Yes, I am still stuck in spring fashion.) Her clothes are cool, playful, and just the smallest amount of girly mixed with androgyny.

Here's some highlights:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I love the tailored shorts with the billowy, smock-style blouse.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I love each and every thing about this outfit: The oversized, men's-style blazer, the color of the top, the yellow pop of the skirt, the tulip-shaped skirt. I am quite in love with everything here, especially the tulip skirt.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
The wide leg, high waisted trousers are so cool, and I can't get enough of the star print on the sweater, and that t-shirt is incredible.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I've been trying to figure out how to wear a romper... and I love this one. Those yellow, alien-style sunglasses are amazing.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
The slouchy silhouette works incredibly. Sort of a French peasant vibe, but injected with a shot of cool.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
This dress is so fantastical! And I CAN NOT get enough of those incredible jazz shoes!!!!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
The jacket and sweet bag rock my world.

I loooved the jazz shoes in this show. What are your opinions?
