Model Citizen: Part 1: Snejana Onopka
Welcome to Part 1 of my (possibly) week-long Model Citizen special.
Haha.
First, a prologue of sorts: Models represent fashion at the time. In the 90's, curvy was in. Turn of the century, Brazilians bombshells a la Gisele. Now, Russian and eastern European models are en vogue.
First up, Snejana Onopka.
Okay. I will admit that she is not the most revolutionary looking model, but she has a pretty face, and she is very good in print. She follows the trend of eastern European models, hailing from the great land of the Ukraine. Blonde hair, blue eyes. I think she is much better in print than on the runway.
She landed this Vogue Italia cover very soon after being discovered, and I just love it. I think the lighting is perfect, and I can't help but like the star.
Runway:
I think she really pulls off this D & G dress.
Sometimes, on the runway, she has a tendency to look a bit wooden. Stiff-shouldered.
She has such a beautiful face, and has mastered the whole blank model stare thing, but isn't it always more interesting when a model like Chanel Iman flashes a mini half-smile. I kind of made the mistake of picking some of her better runway pictures. Style.com is really good, and shows some of her worse ones (and her better ones). Maybe you'll be able to tell what I'm talking about.
Snejana flourishes in print:
This picture is absolutely stunning.
My favorite model, maybe not. A good model, yes. She could really go places, she just needs to work on her runway a bit more.
Oh yeah, and her style's not bad either:

She has such a gorgeous face, and she does take some really good pictures! And I love her style, it rocks!
Love your blog <3
I agree, Snejana is a model of the moment, very waifychic
wow, that was the most gorgeous magazine cover i've seen in awhile. i sometimes think that american vogue is over-rated, becase they would never print a cover like that
